About
Hi, my name is Ruben
I’m an Italian localization and inclusive language expert living in Barcelona. My personal and professional path is quite distinct: let me illustrate it briefly.
My story
I graduated in 2009 in Turin in Scientific Information on Drugs, but a few interviews were enough to realize that working in sales was not for me.
After a period spent thinking about what to do when I grew up, I discovered localization, a field in which knowing English, being good at writing and keeping up with technology are not just passions, but working tools.
After completing a master’s degree at the TuttoEUROPA Agency, in 2011 I moved to Genoa and began working as an in-house translator. In 2018, I felt ready for a new adventure, and I went all-in by moving to Barcelona and becoming a freelance translator.
From 2017 to 2022, I have been the administrator of a Facebook page dedicated to poorly-carried out translations and I’ve been the manager of TDM Magazine, a space dedicated to sharing insights and curiosities about languages, translation and communication.
Between 2016 and 2017 I attended a creative writing course at Scuola Holden in Turin. Maybe I won’t write the next international bestseller, but the experience helped me develop a greater awareness of the power of words.
Around 2018 I started to get interested in the practical side of inclusive language. Two years later, I published an online free guide that helped and inspired many people who write for a living. Since then, I have continued to deepen my knowledge of diversity and inclusion, and have had the opportunity to hold training courses and presentations on the subject.
Since 2022, I have been a member of the Asociación Profesional de Traductores e Intérpretes de Cataluña (APTIC). Being part of an association allows me to stay updated on industry news and meet people who work in different fields and with different languages. Not to mention those two or three times a year we get together to party: being a translator doesn’t mean you’re a lone wolf.
In addition to my job, I enjoy travelling, music, tv series, yoga, Chinese dumplings, stand-up comedy, and cats. Not strictly in that order.
The values that drive the way I work
Accuracy and Naturalness
Accurate and natural language takes the reader by the hand and guides them towards a piece of information, an action or an emotion. When I write, I do my best to use a helpful, respectful and human voice.
Transparency and Proactivity
More than a translator, I am a linguistic consultant. If I notice a problem in a project, room for improvement in a process, or new developments that could impact your business, you will be the first to know.
Curiosity and Flexibility
Being a professional means constantly seeking opportunities to learn and get involved. That’s why I strive to always stay curious, flexible and open to new experiences.
But enough about me!
Tell me what I can help you with.
